If it benefits the user by minimizing bugs and errors and creates a much easier QOL experience for both devs and players i have no issue with it. if it didnt benefit the user in any other way and made it to where we just had to take an extra step to get into the game (like most launchers now a days for like AAA titles) i wouldnt really be that fond of it

  • whats a sup launcher? an rpg?

  • I think SUP should stay in the server browser. I wouldnt want to give a game server more access to my PC than gmod allows.  Alt searching is probably one of penguin's biggest reasons for it. Ha

  • It's a little window you open before the game actually starts that downloads the game, patches, mods, any extra shit that the game might want you to have and then launches the game via the launcher. I

Ph yeah i would use it, i just don't see how will the community grow on numbers as mostly new players won't know how to join or even know SUP exists. Unless the normal way to play stays.

How would it work for new players? They stick with the normal downloads and shit?

This was my thought as well. Sup maintains players because of the quality of the server but it gains new players because it is always on top for player count right? I ended up here as it was the most played server and I wanted to try the game mode out. If I join, download a bunch of content, then find out I'm still missing things because I need a launcher, or just can't play because I need the launcher, I probably would have gone somewhere else.

The point about new players would be rather concerning. As Sup’s unique trait is fast download and joining rates.

Adding a launcher could be a double edged sword. You get more stability for each server’s content and possibly a few other advantages like connecting TS, maybe other special features. But, that also means the launcher will take up even more time to create, manage, update, etc. That’s if bugs don’t occur every so often and break the launcher all together. It takes the attention away from the server’s development which would ultimately be what keeps everything going.

I wouldn’t mind it, but I think more needs to be looked into the consumption and cons this could bring. Interested to see what others say and if any practical designs are created.

Think it would be very good if used correctly, make sure all areas are covered so that SUP can continue like normal just with a launcher.
